ORANMIYAN

Oranmiyan “my case is settled”. Ajagundade, “fought to win the crown“. These names are derived of a strong Yoruba deity from Ile-Ife in Osun, a state of Nigeria where Oranmiyan Ajagundade originated.Oranmiyan was born into a family of well-known drummers and drum makers of a royal lineage. The ancestral blood and art of drumming and drum making resonated in Oranmiyan; he began drumming as soon as he could walk.
Raised in Osogbo, a historic and world known tourist town that homes world’s influential and globally recognized Artists like Jimoh Buraimoh, Nike Davies, Twins 77 and the Austrian Artists and Traditionalist, Susan Wenger also known as Adunni Olorisha.
Despite growing up in a strong Christian family, Oranmiyan’s true ancestral bloodline has always drawn him towards cultural and traditional activities which influenced him and aroused his interest in regional expression and the native music of his culture. This profound respect which was developed from listening to traditional Nigerian musicians such as Sunny Okosun, Fela Anikulapo Kuti, King Sunny Ade, Ebenezer Obey, I.K Dairo, Fatai Rolling Dollars, and international artists such as Bob Marley and the Waliers, etc. helped fuel the creation of his unique and dynamic brand of music.
Oranmiyan grew as an artist performing stage drama and playing drums in schools, churches, also he lead cultural dance groups and acedemic bands. After his secondary school education, he persued a higher Education in computer studies with an emphasis on Computer Hardware maintenancwe/networking. He then proceeded to take an apprenticeship in Analog Audio Recording which opened the opportunity for him to record his EP in 1997 entitled "WATER", which featured his brother Log Ifey and other talented young artists with which he grew up.
Using his strong traditional style of music as a medium/weapon of activism to address social, cultural and political, as well as economic issues, Oranmiyan’soutstanding, songwriting capabilites combined with his strong vocal aesthetic has been categorized asAfrolife Music and has allowed him to work for a variety of studios and tour with several professional Revolutionary Musicians worldwide such as Awa Band ,Tony Allen, Pa Fatail Rolling Dollars, Nneka, Bantu and many more.
Oranmiyan has also featured in a Nigerian movie titled“Relentless”. In this Film He acted as himself and performed an orginal tune entitled “!Trowey ur sorrow!” which was also featured on the film’s soundtrack.
He is currently, working on series of recording projects while performing across North America. He is also featuring and collaborating with multiple artists across the globe.
