Lenka Lichtenberg
Born in Praque, Lenka Lichtenberg is a composer, vocalist (Yiddish, English, Czech, French, Russian, Hebrew), and bandleader with 6 solo CD releases and several collaborations on her resume. She creates uniquely Canadian world music, channeling the rich Toronto soundscapes of Middle East, India and Brazil, and her own East European heritage. Lenka is the recipient of 2012 Canadian Folk Music Award for "Traditional Singer of the Year", and the 2013 Independent Music Award for "World Traditional Album", Vox Populi.
Lenka is in the midst of a diverse international concert career, traveling across continents as a solo artist, with a trio, her six piece ensemble Fray, or with one of her collaborative projects: "Bridges - Jewish and Arabic music in dialogue," and "Lullabies from Exile," a recording work-in-progress with Yair Dalal, of intertwined Yiddish and Babylonian music. Lenka was also the bandleader and principal arranger for the award-winning group Sisters of Sheynville.
Lenka has been written about as "...a force of nature within Canada's world music scene" (Nicholas Jennings, Penguin Eggs); CBC Radio's Karen Gordon describes Lenka's 2013 album "Embrace" as "absolutely exquisite" (Fresh Air.)
