Angels We Have Heard

About the Cover:
This is a picture of the stained glass window found in St.John's Church in Garden River, home of the Pine Family Singers.
The windows was donated to the church by Miss Alice Longfellow, daughter of Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. It is in memory of Chief Shingwauk and depicts an angel wearing mocassins. The original church was built in 1883 over the grave Chief Shingwauk. His gravestone is inside the building.
The window contains an inscription of the last words of Shingwauk's song, Bughwujjenene, saying "Jesus suh yah ge id nin de shah nun" (meaning "I go to Jesus who loves me"). Then there is a verse loved by Shingwauk's family. The translation is "God is a Spirit and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth." (John 4: 24) And under the panel, the words of the hymn in Ojibway:
" A charge to keep I have,
A God to glorify,
A never-dying soul to save,
And fit it for the sky."
We hope you will enjoy these Christmal carols and songs, sung in the traditional Ojibway language and in English. At St.John's Church in Garden River, the Christmas carols are sung in both languages. When they are sung, the church is filled with the memories of the saints and angels who once stood in the church for worship, praise and music. Let this music bring memories of the angels you have heard in your lifetime.
