The Traditional Arabic Music Ensemble
The Traditional Arabic Music Ensemble is a chamber music ensemble created in 1973 by George Sawa and the late Ebrahim Eleish to perform traditional Arabic music repertoire. The instrumental repertoire includes the sama'i, bashraf (peshrev), longa, tahmila, taqsim, folk and classical dances; the vocal includes the Andalusian muwashshah, qad halabi, and folk and popular songs of Egypt and Syria. The ensemble has recorded for the CBC, the Canadian Museum of Civilizations and performed in many venues in Canada (Royal Ontario Museum, Ontario Art Gallery, CBC, Harbourfront, The Music Garden, University of Toronto) the USA and Europe. The Ensemble now includes Mr. Raymond B. Sarweh, Nabil Chehata and Suzanne Meyes Sawa.
