The Art of the Early Egyptian Qanun
"The selections on this CD are 17th-century classical instrumental pieces from the Ottoman court, Egyptian Sufi sacrd dancs, and early 20th-century Egyptian dances and instrumental pieces. To produce a historical performance of this repertoire, in as much as such a task is possible, I have used an Egyptian qanun (psaltery) dating back to the late 19th/early 20th century, as well as percussion instruments of this era, that is, instruments made of animal skins, wood, clay and brass." -Dr. George Dimitri Sawa
"The sound quality is incredible. It is like taking a journey back through time."
"What a lovely selection of pieces from various traditions. This old qanun is so resonant, and your beautiful technique makes it sing. Suzanne's and Raymond's percussion is so tight and precise it is altogether a pleasure. Bidna kaman..." -Abraham Marcus, Department of History, The University of Texas
